The Amazing Race has recently become a favorite of mine.
Now, I am not one to typically enjoy reality television. I get annoyed with the people on the show, as well as producers being too cheap to hire real actors. I do not like the decrease in television where writers actually write a script and actors play a role from that creation. (yup, I once caught part of The Simple Life- give me a break!)
The Amazing Race, however, is different. To me, it is NOT primarily reality TV, but rather a game show. People compete in a race around the world, and if you come in first place, you win a prize. That is a game. The viewers just happen to get to see more of the players' personal lives than with most game shows.
I believe I am taking to this game show so much because of all the traveling they do. With the exception of this current season, Family Edition, they travel to a different country almost every episode. Contestants frequently go to Africa, Western Europe, India, Russia, and others. It is so interesting to watch them go to these foreign places, live the culture (though temporary), and compete in tasks unique to that country or area. And the excellent host Phil is ready to greet them. :)
Perhaps because I have traveled a good bit contributes to my liking this show.
I loved traveling, and I look forward to seeing more of the world.
