Antibiotics May Double Babies' Asthma Risk Later

Babies treated with even one course of
antibiotics during their first year of life may have twice the risk of
developing asthma later in childhood as unexposed babies, an analysis of past
research shows.

Early use of
antibiotics has been implicated because the drugs kill good bacteria in the gut,
which may, in turn, weaken the immune system.

Surprised to read this at first, but it makes sense. While I take caution to ask for a prescription for my child, I would also want to limit his suffering while sick. It seems like a lose-lose situation.
