"...unlike most 1-year-olds, Conner, who was born with the fatal Tay-Sachs disease, will not likely live to see his fifth birthday."
“Eventually, the child becomes blind, mentally retarded, paralyzed and nonresponsive to his or her environment,” according to the association Web site (www.ntsad.org)."
"Facing this disease has caused the family to both question and embrace God. “We wanted to know why this is happening to Conner,” said Mrs. Allin. “It’s really hard for my husband and I to know we’re losing a grandson, but also to see the turmoil it causes in Desiree’s life, too. It’s very difficult for the whole family.”
"Conner undergoes physical therapy and has eight to 10 mild seizures a day. In Conner’s room, a note from his father Carl, 34, written the day Conner was diagnosed, hangs from the crib. A St. Jude pendant hangs from his stuffed alligator and a cross lent to them by Father Bowen sits on a nearby table. Holy water is also nearby."
“We know we’re going to bury him,” said Mrs. Allin. “My boys are my life,” said Mrs. Hopf. “They were going to grow up and play sports together and do all the things that brothers do.”
Please join me in praying for this family, especially Conner. It is so devastatingly sad....makes me ask again, WHY, GOD? (the trust factor again). I pray especially that Conner's physical suffering will be minimal, and for the healing of his family as they prepare for a loss.
