More mothers are staying at home

I can't get that other article out of my head- the one about Stay at Home Moms not being as healthy or thin as working moms. I guess I feel the article, though providing some facts, also did too good a job of making a woman who stays at home look pathetic or dumb ( “Only the not-so-bright or the well-to-do would choose homemaking and motherhood full time,” she writes in her latest book, Outnumbered! Raising 13 Kids with Humor and Prayer) It's almost like a stigmata to stay at home. Society all too often feels sorry for us women who decide to say adios to the work force for the sake of our own offspring and families.

Given all that, I was happy to read this article from the Nation Catholic Register.
...women today are choosing raising children over building
careers, and the idea that homemaking has a special dignity all its own is
catching on once again. Many media reports claim that Ivy League college
graduates in comfortable careers are just as likely to leave the job as less
career-oriented women. Recent studies, widely publicized, have shown that
at-home mothers are also happier in their marriages.(I
interject here! Happier Marriages- HUGE reason, and I have experienced this
myself. So many people assume the opposite)
The trend is also
gaining a foothold in Great Britain, where the Sunday Times reported April 16
that the new educated woman “is a housewife,” who regards her prime
responsibility as bringing up the children.

The article also mentions that many women choose to stay home as they view it as part of their vocation. Yes, God can guide us to actually raise our kids and be there for them non-stop as HE is for us.
