I found this tid-bit to be of interest:
Statistics shows that men with college degrees are more
likely to spend time bathing, playing with and doting on their
children.
Of men ages 22 to 44, 47
percent of those who had not completed high school had children outside of
marriage, compared with 6 percent of those with an undergraduate
degree.
I have to just brag for a moment here- with or without his college degree, I'd bet my husband would be the same amazing dad he is now. He does have his degree, though, and he is working on his Masters currently.
Other points of interest:
A new study conducted by Dr. Ian St. James-Roberts ofAhhh. Once again my stance on letting your baby "cry-it-out" is reaffirmed. It's not a good thing! Those poor babies need love and comfort and security- not "training". They are people, not dogs!
the University of London`s Institute of Education has found that babies who are
comforted as soon as they begin to cry will cry less than those who are left
alone, Life Style Extra reported.
Parents who left their babies alone to cry found that at two and
five weeks of age, their babies cried 50 percent more than did those babies who
had been comforted immediately.
An
unsurprising exception to the rule was that colicky babies were found to cry
regardless of the attention received or the time it took to get that
attention.
I especially agree with the colicky part, though. Our son was colicky. Lord was he ever. 4.5 months of non-stop fussing- I thought I was going crazy. For colicky babies, most often the crying is due to GERD or something physical bothering them. (Lord knows I attended to his cries, held him and nursed him nonstop!)
