Georgian Sentenced for Cutting Off Part of Back-Talking Son's Tongue With Hot Scissors

Davis heated a pair of scissors on a stove in August 2004 and held it to
her 6-year-old son's neck before cutting off a piece of his tongue as punishment
for talking back, authorities said. Her estranged husband, Toby
Davis reported the injuries to police and she was arrested.

I'm not the type of parent to put up with my kid talking back to me, either. Your kid talking back to you, though, NEVER constitutes such abuse. She cut off part of her own son's tongue! And the judge believes the father when e says the kid would be safe around her? I want to know what pressure was applied to the son to go along with the father. The son "also signed an affidavit saying he did not want his mother prosecuted."
I know it's not my place to judge, but if I was the judge, this lady would not be getting off easy like this. I fear for this child.
