Question for my male readers

(last thing on breastfeeding for now, I [almost] promise!)

As a male, do you feel squeamish at the sight of a mother breastfeeding her child?
Does it make you feel uncomfortable?

I ask because that seems to be such a common argument. I am curious to hear some actual men's opinions on this matter.

I am completely comfortable with a mother breastfeeding her child.

I was not always comfortable with it, though. My mother chose not to breastfeed my sister or me. I don't know her reasoning behind the decision--perhaps I should ask one day. Growing up, I was never around anyone that breastfed. There was a 16-year gap between babies in my extended family. I was never really around any babies from the time I was six until I was in college. It wasn't until my youngest aunt had her first child four years ago that I actually remember witnessing a mother breastfeeding a child. At first, I was a little uncomfortable with being in the same room. I think it was a mixture of never having been around it before and not wanting to feel like a pervert for looking in her general direction. I know that sounds silly, but that is truthfully how I felt at first.

Several years later and having been around other breastfeeding mothers, I am completely comfortable with it. I understand that it is natural and there is no reason for me to feel uncomfortable or squeamish.

Yeah, I tend to be the type that gets all ticked off about women who are trying to give their child the best possible nutrition they can! How dare they do so around me! I mean, what do they expect, it’s only their child’s health?
