"You throw like a girl"

Is this an insult? Is it so insulting that it's not allowed to be said in your house?
Sure, "you throw like a girl" said to a male may be meant as an insult. I don't think it's any different, though, than saying a girl is kind of a "manly girl". Or is it?

For clarification, this references to throwing a ball, like a baseball.
And I ask because we were at a social function today, and someone jokingly said to another "man, you throw like a girl". (all in good fun) And a female relative quickly took defense and said "we're not allowed to say that in our house". I asked why not, and she said it's insulting, and that some girls can throw better than boys.

I know girls can be good athletes. I know girls can be better than boys in many things. I just took this all in and thought it was a bit much. Making it a rule to not say that because it is degrading to women. Is it degrading to women? Did I not think so just because I'm not into sports?

For heaven's sake, why are people so sensitive? It's just an expression - it doesn't hurt anyone. Yes, SOME girls can throw better than SOME boys. By and large, men are the more physically strong gender. Sheesh.

Get over it! I doubt Jenny Finch would find that to be an insult. The offense only lies in the person taking it.
