Natural Family Planning as Effective as The Pill

The article is from a month ago, but it's not too late to spread the word, in my opinion. :)
A natural family planning method is as effective as
the contraceptive pill, German research suggests.

For a contraceptive method to be rated as highly
effective it should lead to less than one pregnancy per 100 women per year when
used correctly.

Lead researcher Dr Petra Frank-Herrmann said: "We
maintain that the effectiveness of STM is comparable to the effectiveness of
modern contraceptive methods such as oral contraceptives, and is an effective
and acceptable method of family planning."

Toni Belfield, of the Family Planning Association
(FPA), said: "Natural family planning when taught properly and carried out
correctly is a highly effective method of family planning."

My favorite part: "Natural family planning when taught properly and carried out correctly is a highly effective method of family planning."

I often blog on this issue. It started out primarily for moral reasons (as the Catholic reputation often indicates). Once we started practicing it, however, and researching the ingredients and harmful effects of artificial methods, we have come to believe that moral reasons aside, we'd opt for this natural, non-harmful way of family planning.

I tell you, too, that is a great feeling. I don't worry about the extra hormones, or the artificial lubricants....and the responsibility is equally on both of us. It really strengthens our marriage.

So before I ramble on (as I often do in this area, as well), let me conclude by noting that this article refers to the Sympto-Thermal Method (using both body temperature checks with cervical mucus).

There are a few other methods, as well. (Much different/more reliable than the "calendar-rhythm" method that surfaced around the '60's. That gave NFP a bad rep)

Interested?
Click the links of the method for more info. :)
Creighton Method (mucus only...the method we prefer)
Billings Method
Marquette Model (friends of ours successfully use this method!)

Awesome article. I always try to tell people the effectiveness of NFP is the same or greater than some other forms of birth control ie condoms The article before on immunizationis something new for me. I have had my boys immunized and I think I will continue to do so but I am learning more and more and maybe I will change my mind...who knows. Right now I am considering just delaying immunizations, but making sure they get their shots...just space them out better!
