Do you use sippy cups?

OK, not you, but do you have your children use sippy cups?

This article got me thinking about it. I was also reading in the latest Parenting magazine on how sippy cups are in the top inventions over the past 20 years.

I know some parents who refuse to use them, because they can be harmful on the teeth. (And I know it depends on what is the drink, itself)

So I was just wondering-do most parents use, or avoid, sippy cups?

My kids are past sippy-cup age, but I sure DID use those cups for all of them. Spillproof cups are, IMHO, one of the greatest inventions of modern times.

Generally my kids have been water-drinkers if they're away from the table, so I didn't worry too much about their teeth.

Andy and I didn't use Sippy Cups until recently. Early on, Landon had trouble using them, but we found out the same muscles used in breastfeeding are used to drink from straws...So, we started having Landon drink from regular cups with straws and later found a straw-style sippy cup that seemed easier for him to use. He'd use it occasionally, but now that he's nearing two, we try to give him Sippy Cups for water and organic juice boxes when he's running around.

See, for us, sippy cups came to be apart of our routine because we do a decent amount of traveling. Aidan loves to drink from a reg. cup, but those spill too easily. We do a long drive from MI to SC, or from lower MI to upper MI, etc.. Sippy cups are the perfect thing for the car. (and reg. straws...Aidan has too much fun playing w/ those and losing them)

I was curious what others do. I know my mom says "when you kids were young we never had those...", but at that time, cloth diapers also required diaper pins!

My kids all used sippy cups, but I caution the use of them past about age two or three. I know they are so convenient because of the spill factor, but they can cause problems with speech because drinking from a regular cup (as in closing your mouth around the liquid) does something for their muscles that sippy cups cause them to miss. We had to do speech therapy for one son and sippy cups were deemed a no-no by speech therapists.

my daughter and son both used and my son still uses sippy cups. my daughter is 8 yr. old and NEVER had a cavity in her life. Sadly, I'm not always the role model mother when it comes to my kids diet. Sippy cups are wonderful and I encourage all kids to use them after the bottle.
