Catholic pharmacists in Spain refuse to sell condoms

Maybe it's a bit extreme, but I like it!
It makes me quite proud. :)
(and I doubt you'd see this much in our country, though I wish you would!)
And like the spokesman said, if a customer doesn't like it, there are plenty of other places to go!

i think this is absolutely ridiculous. what would you rather have.. an unplanned pregnancy that possibly ends in abortion, or a pregnancy that could be prevented in the first place?

First of all, I would never want to see an unplanned pregnancy end in abortion. There is no cause for murder.

Secondly, the pregnancy should only be prevented by abstinence. Yup- abstinence. And no, I don't live in the dark ages. It is NOT unrealistic to ask a person to practice some self-control.

Each person makes up his or her own mind regarding how they live their lives. This does not exclude a pharmacist.

Why should a pharmacist have to go against his properly-formed conscience? No one should have to do that.
We are fortunate enough to live in a society where we have many options- many pharmacies- and that customer can easily go to a different store.

neither would i! i think there are better options than abortion (adoption for one!).

unfortunately, not everyone feels this way, and not everyone wants to practice abstinence either.

i don't think you live in the dark ages. i'd personally would love to see my kids practice abstinence until they meet that one special someone and have a loving and committed relationship.

however, that might not be what happens for us. teenagers are not known for thier practice of self control! (neither are adults for that matter, sad but true). i would much rather see my kids be able to go out and buy condoms (in my mind, showing that they practicing responsibility) and use them then not being able to buy them at all.

and while i would personally never have an abortion, i would never want to see that outlawed either. if it were against the law, women would still get them.. illegal, back alley abortions that could give them life threatening infections. at least with legal abortions, they are performed in a sterile doctor's office by some one who knows what they are doing.

but still, i do see it as murder as you do. life is life.

and then in the next paragraph said:

Am I the only one that finds that a little bit hypocritical? I might as well use that logic to quit my job because, I am just bound to screw up sometime and get fired for it right?

Anonymous, you might as well say that I am going to live my life good, but not do anything to stop other people from living theirs in ways that happen to go against society.
For example, for example practicing a homosexual lifestyle (not being gay, but a man having anal sex with other men) is a lifestyle decision that goes against the good of society. It is an amazing statistic that more than half the AIDS affected individuals in the US, also happen to be gay. But if I were to go around telling gay men not to have butt sex, I would be ostracized for it, shunned and insulted. How could I tell them not to live their lives? But at the same time, if I talk a suicidal person down from almost jumping, I am a hero. I could use the same logic, how could I tell them how not to live their life by convincing them not to jump? They are an adult and enlightened enough to know that they are killing themselves. The same holds true to gay men, they know (or should) that having butt sex strongly increases their chances of getting AIDS.
Why should I sit by quietly while people do things to hurt and kill themselves?
By choosing to take the easier road and say that “well they are just going to do it anyway, so lets have them take the path that will hurt the least.” You are simply giving up.

All laws in society are based on what is best for society. Shouldn’t that hold true to your household too?

Anonymous- one thing I agree with you on- adoption. Adoption is a wonderful thing. I wish more people would adopt!

But that's about all I agree with you on.

You are against abortion, but yet you want to keep it legal? Doesn't sound like you're against it to me!

As far as women going to have it anyway...I would like to think that these women have enough brain cells left to make a wise decision. If it is outlawed, it is outlawed for a reason!
And whether it is an abortion done in a dark alley (that was a bit dramatic...), or legally in an office, there are still horrible consequences. Both physical and emotional. It never helps a woman to have an abortion. Legal or not, it still kills an innocent person, and severely hurts the mother.

You want that to remain legal??

i said "hope" because i hope that my kids grow up and practice abstinence until they are in a loving and committed relationship.. i really hope so.. but, i won't be so naive as to think that they just might not follow my advice. after all, it is their lives, thier bodies. so, if they do choose to have sex, then i would like it to be with a condom. not only to help prevent pregnancy, but also to help protect against STD's. i feel that condom use is better than a possible pregnancy ending in abortion.

re abortions: i was saying that *I* personally would never have one. but i don't want to see it outlawed either. i know that even legalized abortion can be harmful physically/emotionally, but i think that illegal abortion is 10 times worse by far!
