Back to the Family Dinner

I have posted before on the family dinner and all its benefits. How could I resist mentioning it again after this great article?

I hate the commercial where the parents yell for the kids to come to dinner and the kids run down and get in the car. I doubt that "dining out" family dinners count based on the large amount of distraction around while eating out. Any thoughts?

I agree- dining out, while it's good to be together as a family, would not count in my book.
Like you mentioned, there are many distractions. It goes beyond that, though.
Much of the importance of the family dinner lies in a person knowing that have a secure place- meaning an actual physical place. If it starts out at the family table sitting in the same chair each meal, so be it. It is the start. It is confidence, security, and knowing what is going to happen when. How can you have that in a restaurant?
Another point about eating out in restaurants (other than the financial aspect)- it is unfortunate, but many people are not comfortable praying Grace before their meal in public.
Those are my thoughts.
