Menu Planning

Do you plan your dinner menus in advance?
This is a practice I am, once again, resuming. I don't know why I ever get out of this practice. It simplifies my life, and it definitely decreases the grocery bill. :) (Since we're doing our Total Money Makeover, that is a big plus!)

Menu planning also results in us eating healthier, as well as sticking to another New Year's resolution a bit better--incorporating more meatless meals into our diet.

I love this! I seem to go through spurts with it-doing it for a month, then not for two, etc. I hope I can just stay disciplined enough now to stick with it each week. Eventually I'd like to plan out lunches for the kids and myself, too. (If you meal-plan, do you plan out lunches as well as dinners?)

In my excitement, I'm posting this week's menu and next week's. (which I just finished! Yes!)

Mon. 1-22-07: Crockpot Chicken with Rice
Tues. 1-23-07: Ziti with Broccoli (meatless and delicious!)
Wed. 1-24-07: Sloppy Joes with corn (needed something fast due to schedules)
Thurs. 1-25-07: Chicken Fajitas
Fri. 1-26-07: Vegetable Chow Mein (vegetarian and so good!)

*weekends are not-so-planned, especially since this weekend we're going to the in-laws.

Mon. 1-29-07: White Beans and Rice (meatless)
Tue. 1-30-07: Carmelized Garlic Chicken with potatoes
Wed. 1-31-07: Vegetable Stew with bread rolls (meatless)

Thurs. 2-1-07: Sticky Teriyaki Chicken with brown rice
Fri. 2-2-07: Breakfast for dinner! :) (dh makes great pancakes!)

So there you have it. :) If you'd like to join us for dinner one night, take your pick. We like company!

Oh, and if there's a recipe you're intersted in, just leave me a comment. I linked to the ones most readily available.

Yes, I do plan my menus!
I blog them here:

There's also a "Menu Plan Monday" meme and you can find the link there.

I only do dinner plans, since there's only 2 of us eating lunch at home. Normally I eat leftovers for lunch, or make scrambled eggs.

I try to plan my dinner menus out in advance. I've found that it increases my shopping efficiency. I know what I need to get on my main grocery shopping trip--which minimizes the chance that I'll have to make another spur of the moment trip to the store (which we all know costs A LOT of money). I've found that my grocery budget can be drastically reduced by planning the meals in advance--leaving more money for other budget categories. I've also found that even though I have a planned dinner menu, it CAN be very flexible if need be. I try to leave "easy" days in my menu, just in case I need to switch days around when things unexpectedly pop up.

So yeah, I'll try to head up your way tomorrow for dinner. Breakfast for Dinner is always one of my favorite meals!! :)
