Photo Fun-Your Favorite Rosary

I was checking out some of the new blogs from the Catholic Mothers Online blog roll. I wandered over to Barbara's site, Prayerful Beads. I am so impressed with the rosaries she makes! They are beautiful.
Her site got me thinking about a special rosary of mine. Most Catholics I know have more than one rosary. Be it from receiving a Sacrament, visiting a shrine, attending a retreat...we seem to have more than one rosary. :) There's never enough motivation to pray, right?

I thought it'd be fun if we shared our favorite rosaries. Why is it your favorite rosary? Is there a story behind where you bought it? Was it a gift? Is it the rosary you pray with most frequently?

I'd love to tag the wonderful ladies from the Catholic Mothers Online blog, as well as anyone else interested in joining in on the tag!
(Please don't feel obligated to participate if you'd prefer not to).

Here is a not-so-great picture of my favorite rosary: I had a hard time getting a picture without the glare. (sorry!) The above rosary is my favorite, though not the one I pray with on a regular basis. I bought that rosary at St. Mark's Square in Venice, Italy. I was there in the fall of 1999 my sophomore year of college. It's a Venetian glass rosary. It is the most beautiful rosary I have. The beads are larger-beautiful glass. I hope the picture can do it some justice! If not, I found this online which is similar by picture.

The one I pray with most often is a wooden rosary with a San Damiano crucifix. I also bought that in Italy (Assisi), but those I have seen in the states. To replace the Venetian one, it'd cost me too much! LOL.

My Venetian rosary was not bought for a Sacrament, nor was it a gift from someone else. However, I bought it at a time when I was going through a deeper conversion. That semester abroad my faith really came into my own. This rosary reminds me of that.

I hope some of you will share, too! You don't have to be as personal if you prefer not to. :)
Leave me a comment if you play along!

Sorry, I don't have a picture of a favorite rosary, since I ain't got one. However, would a rosary be a nice gift for a recently confirmed Catholic? Or would something else be nicer?

I think a rosary is always a nice gift. :) They have certain styles designed just for Confirmation, too.
Prayer books are common gifts, and if I remember correctly, I got a lot of monetary gifts when I was Confirmed. (godparents seem to cover the more religious-type gift, and others gave $)

Hi Sharon, I don't know if I have a favorite rosary, although I do have a lot and I also make them. In bed I like the cheap plastic and string ones...They're very quiet and don't tangle easily. I also like plain wood and one with glass beads of my mother's. I make a rosary for each of my children's First Communions and Confirmations, allowing them to pick out the beads, crucifix, and cernterpieces. And I have the crucifix engraved with their initials and the date of the sacrament. I love making those. Nice topic. I love the rosary.g

Rosemary-how sweet! That's such a great idea. I especially love how you have the crucifix engraved. I need to learn to make rosaries.
Thanks for stopping by. :)

I'm looking for my favorite rosary, it's got wooden beads you can pull after you say the Hail Mary, and it's adorned with images of the Divine Mercy of Jesus. . .I'll post a photo when I find it. Until then, it's the plastic rosary again!

Sharon...all I have are those cheap plastic rosaries...sad isn't it. I would really like to but a really special pretty one. Maybe one day when I convince hubby to go to Rome, I will get one there. I should have the last time we were there!
Blessings

I am very late for this one, but what a wonderful idea! My favorite rosaries are from www.beadsofmercy.com (handmade by Kimberlee, a very talented homeschooling mother). I wrote a post featuring them a while back: http://alice.typepad.com/cottage_garden/2006/11/cottage_garden_.html
