My First Cake!

I made my first real birthday cake yesterday (for my hub's b-day).
I've made flat sheet cakes before, but never presentable looking.

I had the help of Aidan, and we had so much fun. (correction: I had the help of Aidan and the Pillsbury dough boy). He & I thought we were just hilarious by putting gummi worms on the cake. The whole eew factor made us giggle.

I was nervous about making it. Why, I don't know. It's not like Pat would care. I think it's mostly because I can be a perfectionist about things, and anything slightly incorrect could ruin it for me. Good thing Aidan was there telling me I was doing a good job. ;)

Being the dork that I am, I even watched a clip from the Kraft website demonstrating how to best frost a cake like this. Oh yea. Aidan watched it with me. A dorky perfectionist am I.

Of course I took pictures to humor my blogging friends. It actually turned out OK. It tasted decent, but next time, I hope it's more moist.

Two cakes cooling..frosting waiting to be used
Success! 1st cake made it safely to the cake stand
Per the videos instructions: used 1/4 icing on the first layer
More Success: Aidan is impressed by all the frosting
Ta-da! Our mad decorating skills. Strawberries w/ worms. Cool, huh?
Side view
Aidan giving Pat his presents. It was so sweet. Aidan made different pictures for Pat all week long, hiding them in his room. Such a sweet boy.
Blowing out the candle
Why does the cake always look better with the inside showing?
Oh, and it's all already gone. We're pigs.

Oh my gosh, that's the cuteness. Strawberries and gummy worms? Why not?

yum. I'd have to chuck the gummie worms though. Great decoration though! Great job Aidan!!! :) oh, in my mere opinion, to get a cake moist (or for me cupcakes) I use crisco bars RELIGIOUSLY!!! also, hand mix rather than using a mixer.

I love it! Ha ha ha! Landon highly approves of the gummi-worms! He loves anything "disgusting"--ha ha ha! The cake looked awesome! This makes me want to come visit and do hilarious and gross things together with our boys! :o)
