Movie Reviews

We are Marshall: Excellent movie! It was seriously one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
Great actors; incredible plot. It had a rush of many different emotions.
"In November, 1970, virtually the entire football team and coaches of Marshall University (Huntington, W.V.) die in a plane crash. That spring, led by Nate Ruffin, a player who was ill and missed the fatal flight, students rally to convince the board of governors to play the 1971 season. The college president, Don Dedman, must find a coach, who then must find players. They petition the NCAA to allow freshmen to play, and coach Jack Lengyel motivates and leads young players at the same time that he reexamines the Lombardi creed that winning is the only thing. The father and the fiancée of a player who died find strength to move on. Can Marshall win even one game in 1971?"
It's not a guy movie or chick flick. It's just an all around good move that everybody could enjoy.
If you liked Rudy or School Ties, I'm sure you'd enjoy this movie, as well. I plan to watch it again for sure. (side note:McConaughey's hair was incredibly flat in this movie. I know it's reflecting the 70's, but I much prefer it not flat. I also noticed in the movie he had this quirky way of speaking out of the corner of his mouth. I found it to be distracting and odd. I hope he was merely mimicking the true-life coach he was portraying!)

The Painted Veil: "This love story has Kitty meeting young, intelligent, shy and somewhat dull Dr. Walter Fane, whose forte is the study of infectious diseases, and the convenient marriage that she finds herself committed to. It is in this web of intrigue that they head for China, only after Walter discovers Kitty's infidelity with one dashing and witty diplomat Charlie Townsend. So much as to hide her from herself and to help thwart a cholera outbreak, this is a marriage more than on the rocks. This is a cold, indifferent and loveless partnership in a vast unknown and deadly environment that will test both these flightless lovebirds and with the hardships and tolerances more than any had ever anticipated. A visual delight amid the pain and suffering of a dying people and failing marriage. Will a cure be found for both, before it's too late?"
My sister was right. She recommended this movie, and I was skeptical that I'd enjoy it. I did, though. It was an enjoyable movie that held my attention. Edward Norton did an impressive job playing a doctor who travels to a Chinese village to fight against an outbreak of Cholera. Prior to his trip he hands his wife an ultimatum: she goes with him to this village, or the man she's having an affair with must divorce his wife and marry her.
It's a beautiful story to watch, witnessing two people fall in love and get to know each other.
I recommend this movie, but in truth, it's not one I could see myself watching over & over again. It is a good movie, but has a gloomy touch to it. It all depends on your mood, I suppose. All in all, it's definitely worth watching at least once.

I loved We Are Marshalls too! And yes, I think Matthew's mouth thing was portraying the real-life guy. But I agree it was a little annoying! Enjoy your week, and thanks for the other reviews! I love hearing what people like!

Sue-
I admit, Edward Norton did look quite snazzy in those suspenders! :) He looked much better in this movie than The Italian Job.

Somehow, I've never seen We Are Marshall. I need to rent it.

I have seen The Painted Veil. I have to agree with you, it was a good movie, but probably something that I won't watch ever again--a little too depressing.

Sue, I remember seeing The Red Dragon in the theater with you and you kept talking during the movie about how hot he was. Ugh. I really liked that movie.
