Movie Reviews

We are Marshall: Excellent movie! It was seriously one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
Great actors; incredible plot. It had a rush of many different emotions.
"In November, 1970, virtually the entire football team and coaches of Marshall University (Huntington, W.V.) die in a plane crash. That spring, led by Nate Ruffin, a player who was ill and missed the fatal flight, students rally to convince the board of governors to play the 1971 season. The college president, Don Dedman, must find a coach, who then must find players. They petition the NCAA to allow freshmen to play, and coach Jack Lengyel motivates and leads young players at the same time that he reexamines the Lombardi creed that winning is the only thing. The father and the fiancée of a player who died find strength to move on. Can Marshall win even one game in 1971?"
It's not a guy movie or chick flick. It's just an all around good move that everybody could enjoy.
If you liked Rudy or School Ties, I'm sure you'd enjoy this movie, as well. I plan to watch it again for sure. (side note:McConaughey's hair was incredibly flat in this movie. I know it's reflecting the 70's, but I much prefer it not flat. I also noticed in the movie he had this quirky way of speaking out of the corner of his mouth. I found it to be distracting and odd. I hope he was merely mimicking the true-life coach he was portraying!)

The Painted Veil: "This love story has Kitty meeting young, intelligent, shy and somewhat dull Dr. Walter Fane, whose forte is the study of infectious diseases, and the convenient marriage that she finds herself committed to. It is in this web of intrigue that they head for China, only after Walter discovers Kitty's infidelity with one dashing and witty diplomat Charlie Townsend. So much as to hide her from herself and to help thwart a cholera outbreak, this is a marriage more than on the rocks. This is a cold, indifferent and loveless partnership in a vast unknown and deadly environment that will test both these flightless lovebirds and with the hardships and tolerances more than any had ever anticipated. A visual delight amid the pain and suffering of a dying people and failing marriage. Will a cure be found for both, before it's too late?"
My sister was right. She recommended this movie, and I was skeptical that I'd enjoy it. I did, though. It was an enjoyable movie that held my attention. Edward Norton did an impressive job playing a doctor who travels to a Chinese village to fight against an outbreak of Cholera. Prior to his trip he hands his wife an ultimatum: she goes with him to this village, or the man she's having an affair with must divorce his wife and marry her.
It's a beautiful story to watch, witnessing two people fall in love and get to know each other.
I recommend this movie, but in truth, it's not one I could see myself watching over & over again. It is a good movie, but has a gloomy touch to it. It all depends on your mood, I suppose. All in all, it's definitely worth watching at least once.

Movie Review: Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

While I laughed constantly and enjoyed the first Harold & Kumar movie, I can not the same for the second.
Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay had its funny scenes, but I found it to be filled with more crude and vulgar scenes than necessary. In my opinion, it pushed it beyond the limit of funny, crossing over to distasteful and raunchy.

Perhaps it's because we watched the Unrated version. I don't know how the Rated version compares.

I did not like the first movie until having watched it several times. Maybe that would be the case here, too, but I don't imagine renting this second one again.

I was disappointed over all. I did not even finish the entire movie.
I enjoyed the stereotypical jokes and puns, but that wasn't enough for me to outweigh against the material that was bothersome.
Just my opinion. That's my review.

If you've seen both the Harold & Kumar movies, which did you like best?

4th of July

How did you spend the 4th?

We had a nice day, just the four of us. My husband finally had a full day off again (it was nearly 4 weeks this time since a full day off), and we really just enjoyed staying around our area, enjoying time together as a family.

Because it rained on his birthday, we wound up doing something Pat has been wanting to do for a while now: go on this really nice, long bike path. It was his birthday plan, so I was in no position to say no. ;)

I was skeptical of going, for two main reasons:
1.) I had never done the bike w/ the baby seat, nor had Brennan ever been on a bike ride.
2.) I knew it would be a long ride.

It turned out to be a great time, though. Within 2 minutes I was comfortable biking with Brennan, and he loved it. I had him on the bike with me, and Pat had Aidan in the trailer on his bike.

The weather was perfect. It was actually cool enough for the boys to need long sleeves. The path was so scenic and shaded. All in all, we biked roughly 11 miles. That may be normal for some people, but not me! My bum was sore from the seat. (still is)

Here is some of the scenery we saw on our bike ride: (notice Brennan fell asleep)
After the bike ride, we hit Subway and took the lunch with us to a nearby park, making it a picnic lunch. Aidan thought that was cool. The boys loved playing, acting like they hadn't just been outside for over two hours.

We headed home, assuming our exhausted little men would take decent naps. Ha! Brennan did, but Aidan never fell asleep. (I know. Crazy) At least he settled down and played quietly.

Next we ran to the store to get some things, fed the boys dinner, then sent them off to dreamland.

Fighting our tiredness, Pat and I watched I Am Legend. The movie was different than I expected, but pretty good. (I didn't realize it was another zombie-type movie). We enjoyed it, but I didn't think it was as good as others said. (For the zombie movies, I still think 28 Days Later was best). Will Smith is a great actor, though. And I might add, some decent eye candy, too.

That was our 4th in a nutshell. Last year we went to our first Mud Hens game, and I got a cute picture of the boys together. I'm ending with a comparison. Can you believe how much a year changes kids?

Hope you had a nice holiday as well!

Movie Night

Hubby & I finally had the chance to watch a new movie last night. I guess I should clarify-new to us. It's now available on the movie channels. We watched Disturbia, and I thought it was pretty darn good. That Shia LaBeouf is a little cutie!
There were comical touches, suspense...it all made for a worthy watch. Some scenes got my heart going a little faster, where I requested my husband scoot a tad closer to me on the couch. ;) It didn't drag on or anything. I definitely suggest it.

Have you seen it?
