Oh the Irony

On Twitter, I read this:
"Don't waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them!"

I certainly agree with that statement, and I am certainly guilty of not following that advice as often as I should. (though I do tell my kids I love them several times a day)

Then my inbox this morning had the daily verse KLOVE sent:

Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
~ Ephesians 6:13, NLT

Do I resist well? Heck if I know. I'm just proud of myself when I can resist emotional eating. (which is a big challenge today)

I do believe that friends & family can help us, they can be a part of our armor. Much the same, they can be the ones attacking us, too.
I feel blessed that I have a good "army". When a need arises for prayers, I am filled with words promising just that.

My kids come hug me when I'm sad, my husband randomly tells me he loves me throughout each day.
My family truly is a gift. I am thankful for them.
I do hope I tell them enough I love them, and I do value them as people who make me see more of HIM.

So many of you reflect HIM, too. Your posts, your words, your actions...life does seem too short to do otherwise.

Yet in our human nature we fail, and we will fail over & over until our time on earth as passed.

I fail in many areas:
  • I let my kids eat too much junk.
  • I don't pray enough.
  • I wasn't always good with my money.
  • I cringe when I think of the money I wasted before I started using coupons.
  • I have a bad mouth.
  • The list has plenty to add to it...

I am not a total failure, though.
  • I am faithful to my husband and children. I may complain about them, but they are my world and I love them.
  • I have finally succeeded with Weight Watchers.
  • I have finally improved in my home organizational skills.
  • I have been invited to do some freelance work with menu planning, and I take that as a compliment.
  • I have beat down my emotional eating, and most of the time now turn to exercise instead.
  • I keep in touch with my friends. One from (Jen) I've known since we were ELEVEN, and friends from college-let's face it-it's been 8 years already.
  • I teach my children that prayer is important.
My life is filled with irony and contradictions.
My intentions are not always made clear by my actions. I can step back, evaluate, and try harder.

I am grateful for what I have. I am grateful for my friends who offer so much support. And family.

Today I am unplugging for a bit, and enjoying this little family of mine.
Enjoy your weekend!

I think that each little "I Love You" and each act of kindness to your loved ones is building up that armor.

Great post. I'm good at listing my failings, not so good at remembering my successes. Blog more about this freelance menu planning. Sounds interesting.
