I hope this does raise ethical questions. It seems we hear too many stories on how quickly hospitals "release" vegetative patients to their deaths. Would this knowledge have changed the case for Terri Schiavo? Or any one in a similar situation?
No, of course it wouldn't have changed the case for Terri Schiavo. The people who were so bent on killing Terri Schiavo had made up their minds and had no interest in facts.
Terri was an interesting case too, considering that what they did was removed her feeding tube and “allowed” her to starve to death. Since when was receiving food a medical treatment?
But I would hope the knowledge of this would effect any future comatose patients fate. Especially since I would hate to be on the receiving end of a decision and aware, but unable to voice my opinion about it.
