Peanut Butter Recall--Check Yours!

Thought I'd share this in case you hadn't heard.
If you use Peter Pan of Great Value brand peanut butter, please look at the code number on the lid. It may be linked with Salmonella.

There should be a code on the lid. If it starts with the numbers "2111", then find the customer service number on the container and give them the full number for more info.

More details here.

I am NOT happy right now!!

I absolutely LOVE Peter Pan peanut butter. I have for years refused to use any other brand. When I learned of the recall, I checked my pantry. I was not happy to find that I had TWO jars of peanut butter with the code prefix of 2111.

I immediately threw them out, since that is what they said to do. I've now learned that I could have received a refund if I kept the lids--oh well.

From what I've read, they have now learned that ALL Peter Pan peanut butter manufactured since May 2006 had the code prefix of 2111. That means that I've probably gone through 12-13 jars of possibly contaminated peanut butter. I never once got sick, so now I'm kicking myself for not trying to save that brand-new jar that I had just opened before the recall.

I went to the store yesterday and saw that there wasn't any Peter Pan. I was devastated. I decided to get a jar of Jif--my mother suggested that I try it in place of the Peter Pan since "Choosy moms choose Jif." Let me go on record and say that I do not like Jif.

The only bright spot that I see coming from this whole mess is that Peter Pan AND Great Value (Wal-Mart brand) were BOTH affected. Hmmm... Perhaps that means that Peter Pan and Great Value brand are in fact the same!! I look forward to testing this theory. I wouldn't mind saving money by buying the Great Value brand peanut butter if it is the same as the Peter Pan brand.
