Looks like we'll be on the hunt for a new fridge this weekend.
I went to clean the drawers today, and when I pulled them out, there was a good inch or so of NASTY waterish-residue. And it smelled.
We've had a leak for some time, already had the fridge repaired once when the freezer stopped working...
The joy of being a homeowner, right?
The cost to repair it isn't worth it.
So off we'll be going, comparison pricing & all that joy.
At the risk of getting a different answer from each person, here goes:
What brand fridge have you had good experience with? What do you rate as the one to go for?
(and we'll be checking consumer reports, plus already have a great recommendation from my father).

Kennmore. It even survived our move and still works great going on 8 years now.
At least your washer AND fridge didn't go kaput at the same time like ours did. Thank God for tax money. I an curious to read what people say about the brand recommendations.....
Each time we sold a house the appliances stayed behind since we moved MD to OH and then OH. We did buy new fridges both times we moved into those houses though, spending around $400 each time. I think both times we bought frigidaire. However since we lived in MD only 4 years and OH 3, not sure on the life of the fridges. I will say we never had problems while we owned them and even moved the one in OH from our rental to the place by my inlaws.
You are way more thorough than us, we just went to a few stores, looked at our price range and took whatever brand we recognized ;) Def. gonna think about consumer reports, longevity, etc, this time around.
Oops meant to say "then OH to MI"
We've had bad luck with Kenmore and Whirlpool. Kenmore one does not stay cold enough for meat and milk (we use it in the basement as a spare). We are still using the Whirlpool, but the ice maker/water is broken and we have to be careful that the doors close all the way. I've had the best luck with Maytag when it comes to large appliances.
Just don't buy GE!!!
