Grey's Anatomy Vs. Private Practice

Spinoffs-good thing or bad thing?

I have been really enjoying Private Practice, the spinoff of Grey's Anatomy. (Addison left Seattle Grace & headed to California, joining a private practice run by her former college colleagues). I still watch Grey's Anatomy, but I admit-I don't think it's as good as it was before Private Practice.
Without Addison & Burke, it seems, well, bla. Even with the (odd) addition of Lexie and senior citizen intern.

I was thinking about this after reading this article, which indicated that Private Practice is doing better than Grey's Anatomy. In my head I started driving myself crazy, trying to decide which show I do like better. I prefer the old Grey's Anatomy, but this new season I find to be disappointing, so far. You can't just eliminate two major characters and then never talk about them again. There's been no mention of Addison, and minor stuff on Burke. Am I wrong? (maybe I missed something)

For those of you who are fans of these shows-what do you think? Is Grey's falling apart? Will it last, or will Private Practice take over?

I really, really like Private Practice. I didn't think I would, but I really do. The Addison/Pete dynamic is cute, and I absolutely adore the pediatrician whose name escapes me right now.

Grey's isn't quite as jaw-dropping as it once was, not really edge-of-your-seat action. My little brother watches it too, and he missed an episode and asked me what happened and I honestly couldn't remember.

I've been watching both, and yeah, Grey's isn't as exciting this year. But Private Practice has got me hooked, as much as I was trying to not get started on a new show! haha

Reading this, I'm thinking it might be a bad thing to get cable internet and cable like we've been considering. LOL Dh and I are addicted to LOST, we don't need any new addictions! ;)

I agree that Grey's has lost some of the excitement this year. I still watch it every week, though I'm getting SO annoyed with the Meredith/Derrick situation. We all know they should be together, so get on with it already.

I've only seen pieces of Private Practice, as it's on opposite one of our favorite shows, Criminal Minds. What I saw seemed a lot like Grey's to me, as far as dialogue and how the characters interacted. I'd probably watch it if Criminal Minds was on at a different time.
