I have the typical pet-peeves: people chewing with their mouths open, interrupting, etc. You know the basics. Probably some of the same you have.
I've officially added one to the list.
My new PET-peeve?! People dang driving with their dog ON THEIR LAP!
HOW is that not illegal?
What's even worse? I have seen someone driving with their dog on their lap WHILE talking on their cell!
Hello, dumbass. Nice to meet you. Please stay far away from my vehicle while you permit yourself to be so distracted.
It irritates the crap out of me. I'm sure many of these people are the type that treat their pets like an actual child.
Well guess what. A child is not legally permitted to sit in the front, let alone ride on the driver's lap. How in Obama's crazy country is this legal?! So stupid.
It seriously irritates me, and it's officially on my list.
Don't drive with your PET on your lap! It peeves me off.

To North Carolina & Back
It's nice to finally be sitting down & write this post.
It was a crazy busy day:
dropped Pat off at work, put gas in the car, vacuumed the car, went to the grocery store, came home, cut the front lawn, fed the boys lunch, did the shred, showered, then it was time to take Aidan to his silly scavengers activity through the summer rec program.
After that we took the van for an oil change (30 minute wait), headed to yet one more store to get a birthday present for Wednesday's party, plus something needed for dinner. Went from the store to pick Pat up from work, finished dinner, he left for school, bathed the boys, put them to bed, cleaned up the kitchen, folded laundry, vacuumed, mopped, and unloaded the dishwasher.
Like I said, BUSY!
So now I'm using the tiny amount of remaining energy to share about our trip.
We headed towards Raleigh, NC, to visit Erin, John, & their 3 kids.
Despite the 14 hour drive to get there, it was a great trip. The kids all enjoyed playing with each other, and it was so much fun to see them getting along so well. It's nice that they're so close in age.
We enjoyed a trip to the park, playing in the slip & slide, going to an awesome kids' playland place/ hands-on museum, and playing inside. Us grown-ups had fun playing the Wii, and Erin & I even got in some girl time. We went to see The Proposal. GREAT movie! I loved it. And it was fun to see a chick flick with an old friend. :) Plus this movie means I have gained a tremendous amount of respect for Oscar from The Office. Ha!! I can't wait to watch it again.
It came & went too fast, but I am so glad the short 2 days we visited went so nicely. Hopefully we will all see each other again much sooner!
Now for the pictures. :)
attempt at a kid-shot. Sebastian's face isn't fully showing, but I do love the look P & Brennan are exchanging

Menu Plan Monday--July 27, 2009
Monday: Crockpot Chicken over Rice**
Tuesday: Pasta Night (meatless this week)
Wednesday: Chuck E. Cheese for a b-day party
Thursday: Vegetable Quesadillas
Friday: Eat out in Columbus since we'll be there for the day
**Crockpot Chicken over Rice is super easy. Take about a pound of boneless skinless chicken breast, place in crockpot. Pour a can of 98% fat-free cream of chicken soup, plus a can of 98% fat-free cream of ______ soup over chicken. Cook in slow cooker on low for 6+ hours. I often do cream of chicken and cream of mushroom, but we've also tried the cream of chicken plus cream of broccoli, or cream of celery, etc. They're all pretty good.
We serve it over steamed brown rice.
That's our menu for this busy week.
We're recuperating from a fun, yet fast trip to NC from the weekend. We have a b-day party this week, Aidan's first cross country meeting on Thursday, Speech, and then for Pat's work we'll be in Columbus all day on Friday. Phew! I need a 2nd cup of coffee just thinking about it all.
Off I go...have a great week!

Pack it Up, Hit the Road
And tomorrow we're off!
Thank goodness today has been a gloomy, rainy day. It sure made it easier to stay inside and pack. Rain does such a good job of telling Aidan that the park is not in the plans for the day. In fact, rain does a much better job than I do. So thank you, rain.
We're almost finished packing, the food is arranged and cans of Diet Pepsi chilling in the fridge.
Our plan is to wake up, load the car & hit the road. Breakfast will be eaten in the car, probably consisting of Nutra-Grain bars and fruit or granola bars. I'm ok with that for one day.
Hopefully this will have us on the road by 6:30. I look forward to the scenery, as this is a new drive for us, though parts I've been through before. We'll drive through West Virginia, and that is such a beautiful drive. I'm looking forward to it. :)
Our destination is near Raleigh, North Carolina. We're visiting my brother & his family. Fun story: he married one of my best friend's from college. She & I were actually great friends & roommates before they got married. Pretty cool. Now our kids will be playing together & hopefully getting along. Not to mention I'll finally be meeting my goddaughter!
It'll be a fast trip, as we have to drive back on Sunday. Until then, have a great weekend, and stay tuned for many pictures to come!

Menu Plan Monday--July 20, 2009
Monday: Honey-Mustard Roasted Pork
Tuesday: Pasta Night (meatless this week)
Wednesday: Campbell's Creamy Chicken & Vegetables (unless we hit the road early)
Thursday: Driving to NC!
Friday: NC. Probably eating something yummy w/ John & Erin :)
Quick menu week for us since we're heading down south. I am really looking forward to seeing Erin & John & kids...it's been since December 2007! Way too long.
Oh, and I'm passing on my food-find that I think is worthy of mentioning.
La Tortilla Factory tortillas.
Oh yes. Loaded with fiber, but they don't taste like cardboard. 1 tortilla is only 1 point, but note that 2 tortillas eaten together does make 3 points.
I paired the tortillas up with fat-free refried beans (1/2 cup) and had a delicious, filling lunch. 2 points for one burrito. Awesome! I had found these years ago, but gotten away from this lunch & forgotten about the product.
Now that I am down to a minimal amount of points each day, I am really searching for the best low-point meals.
Thanks for stopping by & I hope you have a great week!

Level 3 & the Big-Boy Bed
I'm talking about two different topics here, people. I hope your minds were not in the gutter! ;)
Today brought 2 new adventures for us: the biggest was transitioning Brennan from his crib to a big-boy bed. The other was me doing level 3 of the shred for the first time.
Brennan:
From the beginning, Brennan has been our "crib baby". Aidan was a co-sleeper from day 1, but Brennan has always liked his space. He's our kid that slept in a crib, making new territory familiar to us. (in a good way) However, ever since Milwaukee, he stopped sleeping through the night.
NOT FUN.
I took him to the doctor to rule out any physical problems. Thankfully nothing was found.
We noticed he was resisting all sleep in his crib. He has completely stopped napping, too. The days are feeling pretty long lately...
We got to talking, and Pat shared with me that he felt Brennan would start sleeping better in a big-boy bed. Fortunately we had another twin bed available. It just meant de-bunking the bunk beds & buying some bedding stuff.
Today was the day.
After church this morning we attempted to put Brennan down for a nap, like we've been doing the past 2 weeks. Nothing. Sure enough he was resisting to his fullest potential.
So with Pat actually being home, we got busy. The bunk beds are no more, and the crib is out of sight. (yes, this momma teared up when the crib came down. Think it's time for baby #3?)
Brennan went from this:
We did have to get them to sleep separately, then move Aidan back once asleep. Brennan was way too excited over his new Lightning McQueen blanket, as well as he wouldn't stop inviting Aidan to "jump bed", as he calls it. Why sleep when you can have so much fun jumping on the bed?!
Regardless, they are both asleep now, and I am hoping that this change brings back Brennan's good sleeping habits. This momma sure misses her sleep!
And why do I need my rest? Because I am wearing myself out doing the shred!
I love it, though. I absolutely love this workout & am happy to say I am seeing results. I am 0.4 pounds away from being back to my Weight Watchers goal weight, but I'd like to lose even a little more and continue toning up. It's hard, but I am enjoying it.Level 1 was tough, level 2 a little harder, but whoa nelly...level 3 is much harder!
I was huffing & puffing just a few minutes into it. Jillian Michaels has you doing jumping jacks with weights! Come on! Good calorie-burning stuff. My body just isn't used to it. I plan to do level 3 again tomorrow, and all week. Maybe even John & Erin will do it with me at the end of the week when we see them. What do you guys say? ;)
Shredding at level 3, bidding an unknown good-bye to our crib...changes. Small things add up, don't they?
20-some minutes a day is toning up my body, and sleeping in a twin bed is making my "baby" seem so much bigger.

So...half empty/half full? Summer edition
Looking at the calendar, some would say that summer is halfway over already.
Others would cringe to hear that, insisting that the best is yet to come.
Our weather this weekend certainly makes summer feel like it is about to end, with highs of around 70(!) this weekend. But I know that's just a tease.
The 4th of July always marks the mid-summer point for me, mentally. So in my mind, summer is halfway over. Is the glass half full, or half empty?
I don't mind the cooler weather, I wouldn't mind summer activities coming to an end. However, I'm not so ready for Aidan to start school. Every day. All day.
While it was our decision (and we still feel it's the best choice for him), I am definitely going to miss him. He is a smart, sweet kid. Not to mention a little ladies' man! You should see him interact. Crazy.
I am ready for a normal schedule to resume.
Brennan has pretty much refused to nap most of the summer. I have a big feeling that's due to the excitement of Aidan being home. I'm thinking & praying that this child will start napping again once Aidan is back to school.
Aidan's social life has kept us busy. :)
Mondays he does this Super Silly Scavengers activity through the summer rec program. He loves it.
Tuesdays are a free day.
Wednesdays has been Story Time at the library.
Thursdays he does Fingerpainting through the summer rec program.
Fridays he does soccer, and the last 2 Fridays we've had additional fun at the library, like the Magic Show and the Max & Ruby special.
Everything is fun, but it's also exhausting.
Thankfully most of these programs come to an end this month.
Next Thursday we head south to see Erin & John in North Carolina.
After that I'm thinking we'll enjoy a low-key few last weeks of summer.
Hit the movies, the mall, play in the sprinkler a bit more, maybe go out to lunch with Daddy.
I want the remaining weeks to be more of those lazy-hazy-crazy days of summer type days.
I felt we had a lot of that growing up.
I am really grateful my mom stayed home with us. I hope I am doing half the good she did by staying home with my boys.
Summer remains, for now.
How will you be bringing it to an end?

Wordless Wednesday: New Bag!
It wasn't a planned purchase, but I couldn't resist this bag once I saw it!
Remember how we visited my good friend over the 4th?
Well that friend is the one who makes handbags (I've done some shameless plugs for her Etsy shop in the past).
I saw all of her wonderful bags & tried each on one. So fun! I have one for fall in mind.
I loved this bag instantly. The fabric pattern just clicks with me.
So it now belongs to me. :) It's such a good feeling to get a new bag. Isn't it?
Of course I have yet to do the dreaded act of cleaning out my current bag. Bla.
There's my not-so-wordless-Wednesday post!
Word Schmord.

TGIF
The week following a trip is always exhausting, isn't it?
You're busy playing catch-up with laundry, you're tired from your vacation, and there aren't enough restful hours in the day. Keyword there being restful.
I am so glad it's finally Friday.
It wasn't necessarily a bad week.
We enjoyed a Magic Show at the library yesterday, Story Time on Wednesday, Finger Painting, some good dinners, and watching Wipeout, of course.
Aidan had a pretty good week. He has matured so much lately, and he is such a gem. Honestly. He still has his moments, of course, but he is helpful & becoming so self-sufficient.
2 things about Aidan this week: He led the family in grace several different times, and he did it perfectly. I was impressed. :) We celebrated by getting a new Lightning McQueen book (Easy Reader edition).
The other thing about Aidan--we did BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING!! Ah!!! I noticed the store had it out & for good prices, so we grabbed his list and went. It was awesome to watch him and see how excited he became. He even said to me, "hey mom! Buying school stuff is more fun that toys!". Melted my heart. I hope he enjoys kindergarten as much as he did preschool.
He'll be starting cross country in just a few short weeks!
Brennan...oh Brennan. Unfortunately he is the source for much of my stress from the week. I love the kid to no end, but boy oh boy, he lives up to that "2-year-old reputation". He is downright refusing to nap. And at not quite 2 1/2, I assure you he can't handle not napping. By 3:00 he is miserable, and makes us feel the same way.
It's not that I don't try. Believe me, I try. He goes into his crib each day after lunch. Once every so often he'll actually nap, but he's averaging 2-3 times a month. He'll jump in his crib, try to climb out (already succeeded once), sing, yell...you name it. He will do most everything but sleep. At first he's fine, but then he gets so overtired, he gets beyond crabby & clumsy, starts throwing things, etc. So not fun, especially when we're out in public.
Like yesterday. I thought he's be entertained by the Magic Show. Instead, he screamed and squirmed until I finally too him out into the hallway. During the next 30 minutes, he hit me, broke my Etsy necklace I love, threw his Hotwheel at me, and repeated the word "NO" over & over. I can only stay patient for that behavior for so long. Especially when I miss out on seeing Aidan enjoying the show.
Lesson Learned? Start paying a sitter, even if it's just for an hour. That's worth $10 to me. Thank goodness we have a potential sitter across the street.
Brennan does have his sweet moments, and of course I love the kid and see the good in him, too. But lately? Lately?! This week he wore me down.
Patrick had a test this week that caused him a lot of stress. And when he is stressed, I become stressed. His current class in an Accounting class. After looking at his book, I am so glad I am not dealing with Accounting! I loved Math, but this stuff looks hard.
Understandably, the pressure of school & studying made Pat grumpy & irritable. But you know what, that's how it is so often. And we still have over a year left of school! More than once I have wondered what the heck we'll be like in a room with each other when he is actually finished with school. Right now it's intense and so easy for us to bicker. I hate that.
Me. Yeah, pretty much the same song you could always sing for me. I slacked on housework. I went over my points with Weight Watchers. :( Instead of eating all my fruits/veggies, I munched on the Snyder Buffalo Wing Pretzels (I have John & Erin to thank for that one! You guys introduced me to those). I get mad at myself when I blow it, especially because it takes such hard work to lose weight. At least for me.
I also lost patience with the boys (see above notes on Brennan!). They need a more patient mama. I am working on it. Brennan is certainly giving me plenty of tests lately.
I can say 2 good things I did this week. I have done The Shred the past 3 days, and I will continue. It's a hard workout, but I am really loving it. A-HEM! Hopefully Sue will start joining me.
The other good thing was the pork dinner I made. It turned out just delicious. I love pork, and this meal was good.
Oh! There is another plus I did. For the first time, I cut our entire lawn while home alone with the boys. Woot! Victory for me. Normally I wait until Pat is home, for obvious reasons. But I succeeded. It's a small victory, but I felt proud of myself.
Thank God it's Friday, though. I welcome the weekend! We have another busy weekend, but there is just a different feel to the weekend, ya know?
Tomorrow Pat does have to work, but we can still enjoy some time together as a family. Maybe I'll take the boys to see UP at the theater.
Sunday we're driving to East Lansing for the day. Our friends are hosting a cookout, celebrating 2 things. The hosts just had their second baby, so that's always exciting. The other reason to celebrate is our friend's return home from being deployed. He is in the Navy JAG program, and he has been overseas since Thanksgiving. He is the brother of the guy hosting. How could we not join in on thanking someone who has served our country?
Sunday will be a decent drive, but worth it.
Do you have weekend plans? How was your week?

To Milwaukee & Back
Phew! It's always nice to go on a trip, and it's always nice to come home again.
We returned home yesterday afternoon from a nice trip to Milwaukee.
What is in Milwaukee, you might ask? (other than the awesome Safe House restaurant and Miller Brewery).
One of my best friends, Alison!
It's crazy to think I've known Alison for 11 years now. Crazy. Time sure flies.
We met our freshman year of college; we lived on the same dorm floor. We were both also Education majors, so we were in many of the same classes.
We became fast friends, we've been in each others' weddings, and now we've finally met each others' kids! Well, Alison had met Aidan many times before, but I had never met her adorable daughter, and she had never met Brennan.
The drive to Milwaukee is always exciting because we go right through Chicago. We didn't make the stop at Navy Pier this time around, but we still enjoyed the scenery. Aidan & Brennan especially enjoyed the Metra (city passenger train), announcing "train!!!!!!" every time they saw it. That's a lot in Chicago.
We arrived in Milwaukee Thursday night, and over the long weekend we went to the park, grilled out delicious food (they spoiled us with great food), and Alison was kind enough to make a homemade lemon cheesecake for Pat's birthday on Friday. Yum!Aidan adored Suzanna (Alison's daughter), Pat & Bart got along well (Alison's husband), and Alison & I had some good old girl fun! We did some shopping, some hair stuff, attempted to watch a chick flick...long overdue fun.
Poor Brennan was all out of sorts being in a new place around new people. He kind of had an attitude problem most of the trip, but I think he was feeling anxious. Poor guy. We realized that by the time Aidan was Brenna's age, he had traveled much more, and was consistently around a lot of people since we were still living in Michigan. Brennan seems very happy to be back home, in his crib with his toys.
We all did have a great time, and here are a few pictures to show for it:
4th of July parade...awesome German music men
Aidan happily sharing his candy w/ Suzanna (he was great with her)
Bart, Alison's brother, & Pat playing some ladder ball
Meanwhile, Alison & I did face masks. These particular masks were lousy, but still fun!
A-ha! We ate at The Safe House, and I saw that Corbin Bleu had been there!!!!
Brennan the night before we left, running around having a good time

Hello, July
I can't believe you're here already!
It's the last full month of summer. Isn't that crazy? I know technically summer doesn't end until September, but August is when Aidan starts kindergarten full time. Summer break will come to an end. CRAZY.
June went out with a bang. We had a great time hosting a cookout for my husband's side of the family. It was our IOU to them for helping us move and make our house ready to live in.
They helped us out a ton, so we thanked them by grilling out bacon-wrapped fillets, veggie kabobs, fruit salad, ice cream, and apple pie. Oh, and loaded baked potatoes, beer & wine. It was delicious, every bite of it.
With everyone here, we brought out the slip & slide. Aidan had a blast doing the slip & slide with his uncles. Everyone else had a blast watching them. Have you ever seen grown men do the slip&slide? I recommend it.The month ended well, too, because we learned that Patrick finished his most recent class earning a 98%! That is great and I am proud of him. I am truly impressed by his dedication and work ethic. He is such a different student now than when we were in college together.
JULY
Busy beginning of the month for us!
Pat started his new class this week-Accounting. Sounds like fun, right? (wrong)
Tomorrow we head off to Milwaukee to see some good friends. I have not seen Alison since December 2006-I can't wait! I've never met her daughter, she's never met Brennan, and I get to see her pregnant! (She's having another girl, by the way) Thankfully they're not quite 6 hours away from us, so the drive is more manageable than other trips we take. Plus we get to drive through Chicago, which is always exciting. The boys will love it, getting to see all the trains.
Hopefully we can stop by Navy Pier on our way home.
Friday is Patrick's birthday-the old man is turning 29. ;) I've given him tips on how to be 29, since I'm a whopping 6 weeks older than him. I think I've prepared him alright.
Of course the 4th of July is this weekend. Oh, are you in need of a good cookout recipe? I posted yesterday over here, sharing 2 great dip recipes.
My father's birthday is this month, and towards the end of the month we're planning to drive down to the Raleigh area to visit my brother & his family. (Hi John & Erin!)
We've never seen their house, have yet to meet their newest baby (a-hem, my goddaughter;), and we have not seen them since December 2007. Way too long! It's nice because our kids seem to be on the same insane sleeping schedule. Wake up at the crack of dawn (if not earlier), hit the sack around 7 p.m. Nice.
I welcome July. June was nice, busy, but nice. Yet July holds some excitement, too.
What will you be doing this month? Any trips? Big milestones?
